Vartega and MITO Material Solutions Receive ACE Award at CAMX 2023

It wasn’t long ago that Vartega and MITO announced a strategic partnership to make a joint product. Fenix Fiber+, which combines Vartrega’s Fenix Fiber with the strength of MITO’s functionalized graphene proved to add significant improvements in strength over standard Fenix Fiber in preliminary tests.

Joining forces, MITO and Vartega submitted for an ACE (Award for Composites Excellence) Award this year at CAMX, ultimately winning the award for the category “Infinite Possibility for Market Growth.” Andrew Maxey and Haley Keith accepted the award on Tuesday afternoon at CAMX and presented the product in the CAMX Theater on Wednesday.

Some of the improvements to mechanical properties noted in preliminary testing include a 50% increase in elongation at yield, a 37% increase in Izod impact unnotched, an 18% increase in flex strength, and a 9% increase in tensile strength.* This allows for Vartega’s recycled carbon fiber to be used in even more applications, and helps to show the impact of MITO’s graphene in strengthening composite materials.

As the composites industry works towards a more sustainable future, partnerships like this are vital in proving the possibilities of recycled materials. As we work to solve tough recycling challenges, we are eager to work with partners such as MITO, because we know how important collaboration is in this space. To solve these challenges we know that by working together, we can be stronger than when we face them alone.
