Presenting Companies to Spotlight the Latest Innovations
from across the Pacific Northwest
(Seattle) May 3, 2016 – CleanTech Alliance, the nation’s largest state-level clean technology industry association, unveiled the 24 companies selected to present at the CleanTech Showcase 2016 on June 27 in Seattle. Presenting companies each receive 20 minutes to showcase their latest cleantech innovations in front of 350 industry leaders, policymakers, media and investors.
Selected presenting companies span the entire Pacific Northwest (U.S. and Canada) and consist of CleanTech Alliance members and non-members. The 2016 presenting companies include Vartega Carbon Fiber Recycling LLC.
Andrew Maxey, President of Vartega, will be presenting on the impact Vartega plans to bring to the composites industry in the Pacific Northwest by diverting significant carbon fiber waste from landfill. Vartega estimates that over 15,000 metric tons of carbon fiber, with a lost value of roughly $630 million, end up in landfills globally each year. The benefits of carbon fiber recycling include reduced burden on existing landfill infrastructure and fewer greenhouse gas emissions than manufacturing virgin carbon fiber. Recycled carbon fiber can also lead to improved fuel economy and reduced emissions when used to lightweight cars and planes. Vartega has plans to build a 100 ton/year pilot recycling facility in Washington in 2017.
The CleanTech Showcase is the premier one-day event to experience the latest cleantech innovations from companies and research institutions across the Pacific Northwest. Keynote speakers, panels, poster sessions and an interactive exhibit space will highlight even more technologies, services and ideas covering clean technology, energy and environmental sustainability. CleanTech Showcase 2016 will also feature two keynote speakers:
- Dr. Steven Ashby: Director of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)
- Ira Ehrenpreis: Founder and Managing Partner of DBL Partners
Registration is now open for the CleanTech Showcase 2016, which will be held June 27, 2016, at Bell Harbor International Conference Center in Seattle. Companies interested in sponsoring or exhibiting should contact Kelsey Miller at email@example.com or 206-389-7238.
About Vartega Carbon Fiber Recycling
Vartega Carbon Fiber Recycling LLC is a recycler of advanced materials – specifically strong and lightweight carbon fiber – used in the aerospace, automotive, wind energy, and sporting goods industries. Founded in July 2014, Vartega has developed patent pending recycling technology to address the 15,000 metric tons of carbon fiber waste that is being landfilled and incinerated every year. Vartega’s technology uses a low energy chemistry-based process to free carbon fiber filaments for use in carbon fiber nonwoven fabrics, yarns, thermoplastic pellets, and 3D printing filaments. Materials utilizing Vartega’s low-cost recycled carbon fiber can be used to lightweight automobiles resulting in improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.
